Cardiff's first and only large scale outdoor mela has been running annually since 2007 with the first mela taking place at Coopers Field, Cardiff Castle. It has now grown steadily into Wales' largest single day multicultural event attracting upto 30,000+ visitors.

Below are some of the awards the Mela committee has received in recognition for their work in previous years:

o Universal Peace Federation - The Ambassador for Peace Award

This initiative, launched in 2001, has become the world's largest and most diverse network of peace leaders. They come from all walks of life representing all races, religions, nationality and cultures, and commit themselves to stand on the common ground of universal moral principles, committed to promoting reconciliation, overcoming barriers, and building peace.

o Wales Community Champion Award - Community Champion 2008 (Runner Up)

The South Wales Echo Community Champion Awards honour the men, women and young people who go the extra mile to make our communities a better place to live. These modest people, who rarely find themselves in the limelight, were surrounded by friends, families and colleagues as they became celebrated as the stars of the show. Their achievements were honoured at the ceremony in City Hall in Cardiff.

o Diversity Awards Wales 2008 - Small Voluntary Organisation/ Charity Group Award (Runner Up)

Hosted by the Black Voluntary Sector Network Wales, the Diversity Awards Wales 2008 took place at Cardiff County Hall. The event provided a platform to showcase the vast and valued contribution to diversity and race equality that organisations, community groups and individuals have made throughout Wales during 2007/8.
